Sheryl WestergreenSheryl Westergreen has explored many art forms, from creating her own clothing in high school to exploring photography in her dark room. She eventually found her way to painting and returned to school as a post-baccalaureate to work on her BFA in painting at the University of Washington. A native of the Pacific-Northwest, she continues to live and work in Seattle, WA.Westergreen works primarily in oil, sometimes incorporating drawings in pencil or graphite. She paints mostly abstract landscapes and cityscapes, but enjoys figurative drawing and painting, as well. “My work explores geometric form as it applies to architecture, landscape and the human figure. I translate a memory of a place or an experience through the process of abstraction. By observation, contemplation, and repeated layering of paint, the canvas begins to reveal its particular shapes, lines and textures. The paintings are an exploration of color and geometric form as well as an attempt to suggest a feeling or nuance that is not cut off from the psyche and alludes to hidden affinities and elusive qualities.” Artwork
